Why This Intensive Exists

Most events give HMUA a seat at the table… but not enough moments where your work is the headline.

This intensive was built to change that.

It’s a smaller, overnight creative room where hair & makeup artists get to build full looks with intention, see them photographed in strong environments, and walk away with work that actually shows your range.

Think: less waiting around, more creating — and a flow that keeps the energy high from afternoon through the Moonlit night session.

Event Flow

Friday Afternoon — Two Featured Looks

You’ll create two distinct looks designed to photograph beautifully and give you variety in your portfolio.

These aren’t “quick touch-ups.” This is time to build a look with purpose, see it come to life on a model, and get it captured while the creative momentum is strong.

Friday Night — One Moonlit Look

The night session leans into the Moonlit aesthetic — cinematic, mood-forward, and a little bolder.

Each HMUA will create one night look, giving you a third portfolio variation that feels different from the afternoon sets and photographs with that “after-hours” energy.

Saturday Morning — SFX Bonus Session

To round out the weekend, we’ll hold a bonus SFX education session Saturday morning — a practical talk on how hair & makeup elevates this genre and what reads best on camera in real environments.

It’s not the main event — it’s an added layer that helps you sharpen your creative decisions moving forward.

Bonus: I’ll be filming what I can throughout the event as things flow so you have extra behind-the-scenes moments you can use for your socials.

A curated overnight creative intensive where HMUA are integrated into a coached production flow—so your work is captured intentionally, you’re In The Trenches To Get Real Time Feedback, and you leave with content you can use immediately.

What’s Included

Your $250 HMUA ticket includes:

• Overnight lodging (1 night)
Because we’ll be creating late into the night, staying onsite keeps momentum high and removes the “pack up and disappear” energy.

Shared accommodations
Overnight accommodations will be shared. By participating, you agree to a respectful, close-quarter environment (including shared bedrooms, and potentially shared beds depending on configuration - you pick who).

The goal is to keep the experience intimate and accessible while allowing everyone who wants to stay overnight to do so.

• Vetted models

• Light meals + snacks + refreshments included
Sandwich-style meals, snacks, and drinks so you stay fueled and don’t lose momentum hunting for food.

• Content that actually gets delivered
Izzy + Jeff Goldberg will be the photographers capturing and delivering images—so your work doesn’t disappear after the event. Attendees are also expected to deliver their images as well.

• HMUA Feature Video
You will be filmed during the event and receive a short feature clip you can use to promote your services on social media.

• SFX education session
A focused talk/demo on why HMUA is essential to this genre and how to build looks that photograph powerfully, hands on training with prosthetic pieces provided.

Because this version of the event is intentionally streamlined, some of the larger production elements from the original Invitational have been removed.

This allows the experience to stay focused, intimate, and accessible while still delivering the core value of the Invitational concept.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a conference?

No. This is a small overnight intensive with curated looks, structured flow, and production pacing designed to fully utilize all artists.

What should I bring?

Bring your core kit, hygiene/sanitation supplies, and anything you rely on for consistency. We do not have lighting so please bring what you'd bring when working offsite. We’ll send a prep guide with look expectations and what’s provided vs. what to bring

What’s the schedule and flow (Thu–Sun) at a high level?

Friday afternoon structured rotation shoot in the evening (2 looks) plus a Moonlit Sessions for late night shooting. Saturday morning SFX education.

What if I’m rusty or not “advanced” enough?

If you’re professional, collaborative, and excited to create, you’ll fit. This room is built around respect, pacing, and support—not pressure.

Venue Logistics & Movement Expectations

We’ll be working in close, active environments. Be prepared to move between rooms and keep your kit manageable. Comfort and safety matter.

Will I have my own room for the overnight stay?

In order to keep costs down accommodations are shared. You're asked to agree to close-quarter expectations and potentially shared beds with same gender artists or wherever your comfort lies.

Do I have to spend the night?

Overnight is included because we’ll be creating late and allows for usage of the dynamic visually appealing location. If you choose not to stay, that’s your decision—but the intensive is designed around the overnight flow and price is set.
